Local interest in wood fuel and the opportunities it offers wildlife, jobs and the environment has driven local specialists to put on a free event at Queen Elizabeth Country Park, near Horndean in East Hampshire. Local people will be able to ask questions, listen to experts and actually see a biomass boiler ‘in action’. The event which is being run in partnership with The Forestry Commission, South Downs Joint Committee, LC Energy, and The Greening Campaign will take place on Saturday 6th March and will start at 10am.
Terena Plowright from The Greening Campaign said:
‘‘Many people are now asking about the different renewable fuels that are relevant to The South East area, this fuel has huge benefits for jobs, local landscape, effectively heating buildings and of course, climate change. This is not about chopping down trees and damaging woodlands, this is about making woodlands vibrant places for wildlife. When you drive through the East Hampshire countryside so many of the woodlands are dying because they are not managed, this is our opportunity to create ‘real’ local jobs and get a ‘living’ countryside, as well as create heat for buildings".
It is important for Parish Councils and residents interested in the Green Agenda to learn about biomass and spread the good word. Biomass is good way to increase and utilise the amount of localised fuel sourced from this area.
The event is open to everyone and is free but people do need to register so that places are not wasted and also so that refreshments can be provided. If you would like to come along please contact Judy Froment on 01420 23337 or email: judy.froment@forestry.gsi.gov.uk.
